Shadows

The shadows of the greats
Encompass much and linger
For too long
I cannot see my shadow
It is lost in theirs

It is all a rewrite
I suppose this is too
There is form and there is content
But none of it seems to be mine
Should I read less?

Should I urge the still sun to rise?
To ascend and then stay above
Maybe then the shadows shorten
But maybe so would mine
And still be lost in theirs

Let the sun be then
I’ll learn to step aside
And let assurance take its time
There is enough land
For all our shadows
